The Something Classic Story

More than 30 years ago, a few dreamers in Charlotte decided that catering could be more than trays of meatballs and a side of ho-hum. It could be creative, sustainable, and downright delicious. That’s how Something Classic Catering, now part of the Mother Earth Group, came to life. Since then, we’ve thrown some of Charlotte’s most talked-about parties — from the openings of Neiman Marcus and Crate & Barrel to unforgettable events at the Mint Museum, Bechtler Museum, The Morehead Inn & Discovery Place . . . and amazing parties in your homes as well.

If we seem familiar, it’s because we’ve been part of your table for decades. Remember our Something Classic products at Harris Teeter - the famous Chicken Pot Pie as seen on the Food Network? Or maybe you’ve dined at one of our Mother Earth Group restaurants: Mariposa, Coquette, Fern, the James Beard–nominated Halcyon, Community Café, or our own Something Classic Cafés. Whether it’s your favorite snappy ginger cookies, poppyseed egg salad, or an elegant wedding dinner, we’ve been behind the flavors you love.

We bring our farm to your table with our Mother Earth Group garden.  We grow heirloom tomatoes, cucumbers, figs, eggplants, fresh herbs, edible garnishes, and even host two hives of bees for honey in our garden at our kitchens. Our Green Goddess Alliance, recognized across the Carolinas and nationally, keeps us planet-friendly with composting, green disposables, and local farm partnerships.

And the menus? Global, bold, and unforgettable. Culinary storyteller Jill Marcus brings recipes and tales from travels around the world, inspiring menus for weddings, board meetings, backyard parties, and intimate dinners. Think butlered hors d’oeuvres, conversation-starting hors d’oeuvres (yes, twice on purpose), craft cocktails, desserts from our in-house bakery — the kind guests talk about long after the party ends.

Of course, great food is only part of the story. Our Something Classic team is known for its impeccable servers who anticipate every need and handle every detail with grace. Our event stylists actually answer their phones (yes, really), offer thoughtful recommendations, and curate events so every moment feels effortless and polished. Behind the scenes, our kitchen and logistics teams keep everything running like clockwork — from perfectly timed deliveries to silver that truly shines. It’s our job to make you, our client, look amazing, whether it’s a corporate board meeting, a wedding at the Mint Museum, or an intimate dinner at home.

Something Classic Catering serves Charlotte, Davidson, Lake Norman, Ballantyne, Waxhaw, Belmont, Gastonia, and wineries and venues across the Carolinas. Because no event is just a meal — it’s a memory. And we’ve been making delicious ones for over three decades.
